This design concept began with my muse @thegirljt. While scrolling JT’s Instagram page, there was something that really caught my eye about this particular photo of her. I not only loved the beanie and the eccentric facial expression, but I really admired the cutesy rockstar vibe because it’s not something you commonly see on Black women. Her eyelashes also stood out to me, considering her looking upward, so I decided to make an advertisement for my design page related to lash art. After finding outstanding lash work on my Instagram explore page by @lashhouzzatlanta, I got into the design.
With a bold and textured royal purple base, faint stars in the background, and fun bubbles to mimic JT’s overall aesthetic, I am genuinely pleased with my creation which organically stemmed from my imagination. I chose the fabricated location of the supposed lash extension appointment bookings based on the hometown of JT.
I made a genuine connection to not only her style and personality but also to factual information about her in real life in order to produce the content created.
On February 23, 2023 Nicki Minaj (@nickiminaj) announced the release of her new single as well as her latest alter ego which she calls “Red Ruby Da Sleeze”. With the announcement, she provided the original photo and stated that it’d be used as her cover art. I was already thinking about doing cover art prior to the announcement so there was no better person to choose than one of my favorite rappers of all time for a little graphic design advertisement.
I chose a red background to compliment the beautiful Asian cultural aesthetic and to give the words more depth once I added them. I then literally erased the red from every inch of the outline of her body using just my phone and my fingers, making her literally pop. After choosing the fonts, placing the letters where they felt the most cozy, and actually pinpointing the font colors right off of her two buns and her heels..I was very much pleased with this organically thought out design of mine.
